  • Inverloch Wall House

“Courtyard spaces allow the local area’s native vegetation to infiltrate the property, whilst thick concrete block walls provide protection and privacy, and direct views from within towards dedicated outside spaces.”

Title Type Location
Inverloch Wall House New Residence Inverloch, VIC

Who
A busy professional couple with adult children

What they wanted
A holiday home that could also accommodate visiting children, grandchildren and friends. The house is to be robust, low maintenance, relaxed – and to also feel “grounded”. Although there is to be ample natural light with large windows providing views and outlooks to outdoor spaces, there is also a need to feel enclosed and protected when within

Project
New residence covered by an indigenous vegetation overlay in a coastal town

Size
Site: 698m2 / Floor Area: 255m2

Overview
In a part of this coastal town characterised by significant indigenous vegetation, the approach is to divide the three zones of the house – living / parents retreat + entry / visitors + services – into connected, smaller linear buildings. This creates additional courtyard spaces which allow the local area’s native landscape and vegetation to infiltrate the property, usurping the disruptive frontyard/backyard division of landscape and planting typical of most suburban housing. Thick concrete block walls will provide protection and privacy, and direct views from within towards dedicated outside spaces.
